About the Role
The primary purpose of the position is to lead the company’s financial operations with accuracy and integrity, ensuring robust systems, reliable reporting, and sound financial control. The role is responsible for managing the accounts team, optimising the use of Sage 200, and strengthening financial processes in preparation for the commercial scaleup, while supporting strategic decision-making and sustainable business growth.
The Senior Finance Manager will:
Lead the day-to-day financial operations with accuracy, accountability, and attention to detail.
Take full responsibility for monthly management reporting, ensuring clarity, consistency, and timeliness.
Demonstrate strong systems knowledge, acting as the internal expert and champion for Sage 200 optimisation and data integrity.
Exhibit a proactive and solutions-focused mindset when improving processes and resolving financial or systems issues.
Develop & maintain robust internal controls and reconciliations, showing diligence and integrity in financial stewardship.
Support the VP Finance in budgeting, forecasting, and strategic financial planning with analytical precision.
Collaborate with supply chain, manufacturing, and commercial teams to ensure accurate cost and inventory accounting.
Show initiative in identifying risks and opportunities that could affect the company’s financial position.
Uphold confidentiality, ethics, and sound judgment in all aspects of financial management.
Lead by example, balancing a hands-on approach with a calm, methodical leadership style.
Strive for continuous improvement, embracing change and driving efficiency across the finance function.
Build strong relationships across the organisation, acting as a trusted and dependable financial partner.
Responsibilities
Oversee day-to-day financial operations including ledgers, cash flow, and month-end close.
Produce monthly management accounts, variance analyses, and departmental reports
Maintain balance sheet integrity and ensure appropriate reconciliations are completed monthly.
Lead financial control and process improvement initiatives, ensuring compliance and efficiency.
Act as the Sage 200 system lead, optimising configuration, workflows, and reporting capabilities.
Key internal stakeholder management - support budgeting, forecasting, and financial modelling to guide strategic decisions.
Manage, mentor, and support the accounts team to ensure timely and accurate outputs.
Prepare the business for an eventual first formal financial audit, developing internal controls and documentation.
Liaise with external advisors (auditors, tax agents, and consultants) as required.
Support the VP Finance in strategic projects, capex evaluations, and financial planning.
Qualifications and Experience
Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) or equivalent professional experience.
Experience in a manufacturing environment—costing, stock control, and production accounting.
Strong understanding of UK GAAP, financial controls, and statutory compliance.
Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret complex financial data into actionable insight.
Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
Highly organised, with a focus on accuracy and meeting deadlines.
Problem-solving and process improvement orientation.
Advanced user of Sage 200 with experience in system administration, report design, and integration would be a distinct advantage.
