About Us
Founded in 2000 by Professor Derek McMinn, JointMedica has built a 25-year legacy in orthopaedic innovation, evolving from a pioneering R&D venture into a globally recognised manufacturer of advanced hip resurfacing technology. Its roots trace back to the creation of the Birmingham Hip Resurfacing (BHR) system in the late 1990s co-created by Professor McMinn and Mr. Ronan Treacy, a globally adopted solution for young, active patients.
Over the decades, JointMedica has consistently driven innovation in arthroplasty, most notably through the development of the Polymotion® Hip Resurfacing System. The first iteration of this device, initially implanted in 2015, has demonstrated strong clinical outcomes and earned FDA Breakthrough Device Designation in 2022.
With substantial investment received in 2023, JointMedica has transitioned into a dynamic manufacturing company pursuing multi-national regulatory approvals. Recognised with multiple awards for technological excellence, the company now stands at the forefront of modern orthopaedic implant design, continuing its mission to redefine the future of hip arthroplasty.
