Second Birmingham Oncology and Arthroplasty Meeting
The Second Birmingham Oncology and Arthroplasty Meeting took place on the 6th and 7th July 2018 at the Forrest of Arden Marriot Hotel, Birmingham, UK.
The theme of the meeting was ‘Improving Outcomes in Proximal Femoral Reconstruction’.

The allotted session title ‘New Bearings in Arthroplasty and Potential uses’, was expanded on by Mr McMinn delivering a brief snapshot relating to the following subjects:
Metal on Metal Total Hips - Results, observations, causes of failure, the influence and effect of taper corrosion.
CT Stem concept - The application of Zirconium as an inert taper interface, biomechanical considerations of component design.
1-20 year follow up of Mr. McMinn’s Metal on Metal Hip Resurfacing design, the Birmingham Hip Resurfacing (BHR) TM S&N.

Custom Made Metal on Highly Crosslinked Polyethylene hip resurfacings
Complex Hip Revision surgery, the use of custom augments a deviation from current industry offerings.
This overview was well received and stimulated significant discussion during questioning and over lunch on the first day.
The meeting was well structured and administrated, many of the worlds leading Orthopaedic Oncology specialists shared their insights and best practice in this highly challenging sub speciality within Orthopaedic arthroplasty.
